Inclusivity & Anti-Racism Statement

At Greater Toronto Music School, we believe that music is a universal language that transcends boundaries and brings people together. Our commitment to anti-racism and inclusivity is at the core of our mission to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for all students, staff, and community members.

We are dedicated to:

  1. Fostering Diversity: We celebrate and embrace the diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences of our students and staff, including those from the LGBTQ+ community. We believe that diversity enriches our learning environment and enhances our collective creativity.

  2. Promoting Equity: We strive to ensure that everyone has equal access to our programs and resources. We are committed to removing barriers and providing opportunities for all individuals, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or socioeconomic status.

  3. Standing Against Racism and Discrimination: We unequivocally denounce all forms of racism, discrimination, and homophobia. We actively work to create a safe space where everyone feels valued, respected, and heard.

  4. Continuous Education: We are committed to ongoing education and self-reflection to better understand and address issues of racism, inequality, and LGBTQ+ inclusion. We provide training and resources to our staff and students to promote awareness and inclusivity.

  5. Inclusive Curriculum: Our curriculum reflects our commitment to inclusivity by incorporating a wide range of musical traditions and perspectives. We aim to highlight the contributions of diverse cultures and the LGBTQ+ community to the world of music.

  6. Community Engagement: We engage with our local community to promote inclusivity and social justice. We partner with organizations that share our values and work together to create positive change.

  7. We acknowledge that Greater Toronto Music School operates on the traditional territory of many nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples, and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. We also acknowledge that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 with the Mississaugas of the Credit. We recognize and deeply respect the enduring presence and contributions of Indigenous peoples to this land.

At Greater Toronto Music School, we believe that every voice matters and that by working together, we can create a more just and inclusive world through the power of music.
