Guitar
Abshir is a Toronto based guitarist appreciated for his creative interpretations, and wide variety of repertoire. He has received first prize at the FCMF national competition in the guitar category and has been included in CBC’s ‘Top 30 Under 30.’ Abshir began his guitar studies with Dr. Matthew Gould, in Sudbury, and has since completed an undergraduate degree in classical guitar performance at the University of Toronto, with Dr. Jeffrey Mcfadden, and a master’s degree at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with David Tanenbaum and Dr. Richard Savino. Abshir is currently pursuing doctoral studies in guitar performance at the University of Toronto. Abshir believes that music education can be enriching for players of all ages and amounts of experience, and is particularly pleased when students learn to play the music that they most enjoy listening to.
Abshir has performed both solo and ensemble music at numerous venues, such as: the University of San Francisco, the Arts and Letter’s Club, Toronto, the Centre for New Music, San Francisco, and the National Geographic cruise ship, Treasure Island. During his graduate degree, Abshir became a member of SFCM’s ‘Music for Hire’ team, performing music of varying genres, and for a wide range of social events. Above all, Abshir wishes to share joy and fulfillment through music.
