About Alex
Alex is an experienced music educator and professional musician with a strong background in performance and teaching. He holds a Bachelor of Music with honours from Humber College’s Contemporary Music Program and a Master of Arts from York University. With over ten years of full-time teaching experience, he offers lessons primarily in guitar and piano, at the Greater Toronto Music School.
Trained from a young age by the Royal Conservatory of Music in both guitar and piano, Alex excelled in advanced examinations and recital performances. His career as a working musician includes extensive live and studio experience across various ensembles and bands in the Greater Toronto Area. A versatile multi-instrumentalist, he plays guitar, piano, bass, and drums, covering genres such as classical, jazz, pop, folk, and rock. In recent years, he has toured Europe as a recipient of a Canada Council Touring Grant.
Teaching Philosophy
Alex believes that music education should be both structured and adaptable, ensuring that each student’s learning experience aligns with their individual interests and passions. His approach combines technical skill development with a focus on creativity, making lessons engaging and enjoyable.
By incorporating diverse teaching methods—including ear training, theory, and performance techniques—Alex helps students build a strong musical foundation while fostering a lifelong love of music. He tailors his lesson plans to accommodate different learning styles, providing the necessary support and direction to help students thrive on their musical journey.
