Sophie

Flute, Clarinet, Piano

Sophie is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist (flute, clarinet, piano, production) and music teacher based in Toronto with a deep passion for classical music. She graduated with a Bachelor of Music from Queen's University, specializing in music and focusing on flute. Sophie's dedication to her craft is evident from her consistent participation in the Queen's University Wind Ensemble and Flute Choir, where she has held the position of first flutist since 2019.


Born into a Mandarin-speaking family, Sophie has blended her cultural heritage with her musical education to create a unique artistic expression. Her musical journey has been marked by numerous accolades, such as the Kingston Symphony Association Scholarship in Music and first place in the Wind Section at the Kingston Symphony Association Competition in 2023. She also earned second place in the Concerto Competition at the Kingston Kiwanis Festival in 2021.


Sophie's talents extend beyond performance. She successfully organized and delivered a solo recital in 2023, captivating her audience with a diverse repertoire. Her organizational skills are further demonstrated in her leadership roles within the Baha'i community in Kingston, where she designs and implements music education programs, blending her love for music with a strong commitment to community service.


Sophie is also skilled in music production software such as Reaper and Logic, as well as Adobe Suite, enhancing her ability to contribute to the music creation and design. Her ability to communicate and engage effectively is further demonstrated through her work as a private English tutor, where she developed bespoke lesson plans tailored to individual student needs.


With a record of academic and musical excellence, Sophie Yang is poised to continue making significant contributions to the music world, connecting her audiences with the profound beauty and complexity of classical music.
